Artist’s Statement

My work explores dynamic fusions of acrylic paint with mixed media textures and live plant stencils.  This expresses my strong feelings about my subjects which primarily come from nature.  The beautiful Pacific Northwest provides abundant daily inspiration; a piece begins from my own photographs or sketches, telling a personal story and evolving from there.  Acrylics dry fast and are very versatile:  base layers of brilliant color are scrubbed, scraped off, overlaid with textural mediums, collage and ink washes. This creative process sometimes becomes the dominant focus of the painting and an exciting, ongoing learning process for the me and for my students!
