Paintings Inspired by Poems

Blue Water
Blue Water

I realized, later in life than I'd like to admit

That water has no color

The Mediterranean isn't truly wine dark

Nor is the Puget Sound pale grey

They simply reflect what is above and beneath them

So it is with the blue Pacific

Floating above corals and under blue sky

In places one can see unfathomable distances

And from a distance it's so blue

But The Sound sits on river rock -

Stand close and you can see its foundation

Beautiful slate grey rock, water as clear as can be

Most often it lies under lush grey clouds

Which by themselves are beautiful

It's like that with us

Depends on the day as to who is the sky

And who is the water

But on those grey days it's apparent

It's impossible for the water to change the sky's color

No matter how it rages - The sky will do what it will
